Backyard Paradise

So, a little while ago, one of the volunteers at The Space in CT asked me if I would like to play at a house party. She told me all her favorite bands were playing and she'd love to have me there too. That was awesome! I said yes immediately.

I didn't really know what to expect. Was this gonna be a house party where plastic cups prevailed and trampoline accidents abounded? Or was it gonna be classy - would I need a suit?

It was just me and Julia for this show, and to be safe, I think I wore a tie. Julia of course wore a sweet rock and roll dress. A little boy who was pushing a toy lawnmower the entire time we were there developed a huge crush on Julia and hung out with here all night. He said nothing about my tie.

Not the point.

So, we get there a little late, because I'm an idiot when it comes to directions. This girl's backyard is massive and all I could think about was how awesome it would be to set up a massive Slip and Slide. There was this great big tent with all sorts or electronics underneath, and amps and mics and drums. Chairs lined the hillside of this gargantuan backyard.

Someone from one of the other bands graciously helped me and Julia get set up. Like an idiot, I broke a string before we even started. I changed it quickly and made some jokes with the other bands about g-strings and how they are always breaking. Ha ha. Hilarious.

Finally, we were all set up and we played a very tight set. It sounded great and everyone there was so respectful and really listened to us. It was very awesome. We finished up and got ready to hear the rest of the bands.

I was so psyched because the acts that followed were incredible. The band isHesafe were terrific. The drummer was awesome; the whole band was awesome. And they were all the superest nicest dudes ever!

Then the sun was starting to set and Deas Vail took the stage. I gotta tell ya, there is no better music to watch a sunset to than that of Deas Vail. The band blew me away. I couldn't get over how awesome the guy's voice was. You should definitely check this band out.

Finally, to wrap up the evening, Coin Laundry Loser (aka Nick Flora) played a great solo acoustic set. Everyone plays acoustic guitar and sings, right? This guy was incredible. He had a great stage presence and wrote really interesting and catchy songs. Not your typical singer songwriter. And he was nice as hell.

All in all it was an awesome evening. It made me want to play in your backyard!

So...can I?
